There is a space...

I love the winter solstice, the shortest and darkest day of the year. It marks the changing of the season, the lengthening of the days, and the promise of spring just the other side of winter. For me, the solstice creates a space; a space between the busyness of the past year and the ramping up of the new year. It creates a space to look back at all I have been and accomplished (or not!) through the ups and downs of the year gone by. It creates a space to rejuvenate, to reflect, to relax before the onset of the new year. I am reminded of the words of Viktor Frankl, "Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom." Wishing you space and time this holiday season, space to pause and choose your response as you enter in to the new year.
